China's semiconductor industry continues to try to catch up technologically

China's semiconductor industry is accelerating the development of advanced chips as its indigenous 28-nanometer (nm) process is set to enter mass production this year, with the 14-nm process to follow next year. Industry experts say Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) will build a 14-nm chipmaking process next year, making it the first Chinese company to have the technology and start mass distribution. This would put the company in the elite circle of Intel, TSMC, and Samsung.
